American Student Assistance and Reach4Success have joined together to develop the Financial Aid Roadmap! We believe that providing the right information at the right time is a critical component in helping families prepare for college costs.
The Financial Aid Roadmap involves three components:
·Information about financial aid programs, resources and strategies for students and families
·Ongoing individualized financial aid advising and application assistance for students/families
·Training on financial aid topics for school, community, and faith-based staff who work with under-resourced students and families
Financial Aid Roadmap programs include:
Speakers Bureau: The Speakers Bureau is comprised of experienced financial aid professionals and admissions specialists. Members of the Speakers Bureau conduct financial aid workshops for elementary, middle and high school students, and parents as well as adult learners. Members are also available to provide workshops for other college access providers and organizations. The program continues to be an effective financial aid resource, given the success of the hands-on training sessions, increased number of universities, community and faith-based leaders' involvement and participation. This training is offered at various sites during the academic year, and adequately equips many college-bound students and their families with the financial resources and tools they need.
Financial Aid Coaches: The Financial Aid coaches program is comprised of DC Public School and TRIO counselors, community leaders, faith-based organizations and financial aid and admission specialists who have successfully completed a six-week training. Coaches assist both the program manager and members of the Speakers Bureau with workshops and college fairs, and volunteer with assisting students with the FAFSA in the College Information Center.
